The Mayor of Rio de Janeiro has taken a firm stance following allegations that Chappell Roan’s security team distressed the young daughter of Brazilian football star Jorginho. The incident has sparked a heated public discourse regarding fan boundaries and celebrity security protocols.

In a pointed statement shared to X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, March 21, Rio Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere asserted that the 28-year-old “Good Luck, Babe!” singer is officially barred from performing at the prestigious Todo Mundo no Rio festival as long as he remains in office. Furthermore, he extended a special invitation to Jorginho’s 11-year-old daughter, naming her a guest of honor for the upcoming festivities.

“As long as I lead this city, this young lady will not be performing at Todo Mundo no Rio!” Cavaliere declared, adding a comparison to other global icons. “I find it hard to believe Shakira would ever act this way. By the way, Jorginho, your little one is officially our guest of honor this May.”

Todo Mundo no Rio is a celebrated series of free international concerts staged on the iconic Copacabana Beach. After record-breaking sets by Madonna in 2024 and Lady Gaga in 2025, the event is preparing to host Shakira as this year’s headliner on May 2. Jorginho acknowledged the mayor’s support by responding with heart emojis.

The controversy ignited after Jorginho shared an emotional Instagram Story detailing a confrontation at a São Paulo hotel. The midfielder explained that his wife, Catherine Harding, and their daughter were lodging at the same hotel as Roan ahead of her Lollapalooza Brazil performance. While his daughter recognized the pop star during breakfast, Jorginho maintained she did not approach or disturb her.

However, the encounter reportedly turned sour when a security guard allegedly confronted the family with “extreme aggression.” The athlete claimed the guard accused his daughter of “disrespectful” behavior and harassment, threatening to report them to hotel management. The ordeal reportedly left the 11-year-old in tears and visibly shaken.

On Sunday morning, Roan offered her perspective on the situation, seeking to clarify the events. Speaking from her bed in a video shared on social media, she explained that she was entirely unaware that the interaction had even taken place.

“I’m going to share my side of what happened regarding a mother and child and a security guard—who, for the record, is not my personal security,” Roan stated. “I didn’t even see them. No one approached me, and I was just sitting at breakfast. It seems they were also guests at the hotel.”

The singer expressed frustration over the guard’s behavior, stating it was “unfair” for security to assume someone had bad intentions without provocation. “I did not ask anyone to confront them. They weren’t doing anything wrong,” she added.

Closing her message with a note of empathy, Roan dismissed any rumors of animosity toward her audience. “The idea that I hate fans or children is absurd. I am genuinely sorry to that mother and daughter. It makes me sad that you were made to feel uncomfortable; you certainly didn’t deserve that.”
