Report Claims GTA 6 Water Physics Cost Immense Amount

Social media profiles and certain gaming outlets are spreading claims that $200 million to $300 million was spent on creating realistic water in GTA 6. These reports state that Rockstar Games allegedly assigned a dedicated team of 20 people to work exclusively on this feature, and that the game will include surfing, hurricanes, floods, and dynamic tides.

This information is unverified and originates from posts that lack any sources. Several places attribute the claims to a well-informed journalist named Aleix Ventura, who does not exist. The account where the rumor started has been located, and it mentions no source for the claims.

Some aspects of the rumor could turn out to be true, following a pattern where random guesses occasionally align with reality. Tidal phenomena are likely to be implemented, as they appear in a couple of official screenshots.

Reason for doubt remains regarding the other features. While floods occur in Miami, hurricanes are relatively rare in the area, and calculating how both phenomena would affect an open world is technically difficult. Players previously wrote about earthquakes in GTA 5, but that claim proved false. Surfing is also not popular in Florida’s largest city due to local wave types, making its inclusion unlikely.

The cited financial figures also lack context. If the estimated budget reaches $1 billion to $2 billion, split between development and marketing, allocating 20% solely to water physics is improbable. Water will feature in Grand Theft Auto VI for activities such as drug transportation, fishing, diving, and kayaking, alongside the hope for a proper boat modification system. However, $200 million to $300 million is enough to fund an entirely separate AAA title.
