The first quarter of 2027 will see a surge in game releases, largely due to the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI.
Sony highlighted God of War Laufey during the June PlayStation State of Play. Santa Monica Studio showed gameplay from the upcoming entry in the God of War series, but the team withheld a specific release window.
Previous reports pointed toward a launch in the first half of 2027. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier recently supported these claims, suggesting the title could arrive as early as February or March 2027.
Schreier explains that publishers are adjusting their release schedules to accommodate Grand Theft Auto VI. Because the Rockstar Games project commands so much market attention, other companies are moving their own products to avoid direct competition.
Some autumn releases might move to different dates to avoid fighting for visibility during the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. This shift creates a crowded landscape for the start of 2027.
Schreier expects Sony to announce a February or March 2027 launch for God of War Laufey soon. He considers this timeframe the most logical slot for the PlayStation exclusive.
Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio have not confirmed these release plans.
