Arkane was creating a PlayStation 5 variation of its upcoming first-person vampire shooter, Redfall, prior to Microsoft acquired Bethesda in 2020. However, complying with the procurement, the PS5 variation of the game was terminated by Microsoft, according to Arkane supervisor Harvey Smith in a meeting with IGN France (converted by IGN).
Discussing this with IGN France, Smith claimed, “We got bought by Microsoft and that was a huge sea change. They said, ‘No PlayStation 5. Now we’re gonna do Game Pass, Xbox and PC.'”
Smith claimed Arkane really did not mind the choice, also if Redfall was initially implied to launch on PlayStation, Xbox, as well as computer.
“Support from Game Pass and having to worry about one less platform, one less complexity,” Smith informed IGN France. “And Game Pass has a ton of people that can play. It could be our biggest game ever because of the 30 million Game Pass [members] or whatever that number is.”
News of this terminated PS5 variation of Redfall does not come as much of a shock. When Redfall was disclosed throughout a 2021 Xbox as well as Bethesda E3 display, it was revealed as an Xbox console exclusive. And considering it’s foregone conclusion for business like PlayStation, Xbox, as well as Nintendo to maintain their first-party launches off of rival gaming consoles, it’s likewise not unexpected Microsoft chose to make Redfall an Xbox special after it obtained Bethesda.
Redfall hits Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, as well as COMPUTER on May 2.
