Red Dead Redemption Launches Next Month on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2 and Mobile with Free Upgrade Paths

Update — November 13, 2025, 2:16 p.m. ET

Earlier today, app store entries for iOS and Android suggested a mobile edition of Red Dead Redemption would appear on Netflix next month and require an active Netflix subscription. Rockstar Games has since posted an official announcement clarifying the rollout: Red Dead Redemption will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, iOS and Android — and it will also be playable on Netflix’s mobile games platform.

According to Rockstar, the game will arrive across those platforms on December 2, 2025.

On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S the title will run at 60 frames per second with improved image quality, HDR support, and up to 4K resolution. The Switch 2 version will target 60 FPS at a high resolution and include DLSS, HDR, and mouse-input support. Rockstar says current owners of the PS4 or Switch releases, or the backward-compatible Xbox One digital version, will be eligible for free digital upgrades — and PlayStation and Switch players can continue using their existing saves.

Rockstar credits Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games for helping develop these new ports. The company also notes Red Dead Redemption will be added to the GTA+ Games Library and the PlayStation Plus Catalog on December 2, 2025.

Prior to Rockstar’s announcement, an ESRB listing had hinted at upcoming Red Dead Redemption versions for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch. App store listings for iOS and Android then began showing the game as a Netflix Games title slated to appear next month, with store pages indicating a December 4 availability for the mobile edition on Netflix.

Because that mobile release will be offered through Netflix Games, a Netflix subscription is required to access it. The mobile edition is said to include the base game and the Undead Nightmare DLC content.

The app store synopsis summarizes John Marston’s story: federal agents threaten his family, forcing the former outlaw to track down the criminal gang he once rode with as he traverses the American West and Mexico to confront his violent past — a narrative that originally preceded Red Dead Redemption II.

Although the announcement centers on a mobile version, the port appears visually respectable, likely helped by the original title’s 2010 release and modern enhancements for current hardware. The game already exists on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and has been playable via PS4, Xbox Series X|S backward compatibility, Nintendo Switch, and PC. After the recent ESRB sighting, fans anticipated a formal reveal for next-generation consoles; instead, Netflix became the first platform mentioned in public store listings.

At the time of the original listings, the mobile release was marked for December 4, 2025, while Rockstar’s later announcement sets the broader platform launch for December 2, 2025.
