Ray Tracing is Coming to GTA 1 via RTX Remix
NVIDIA’s RTX Remix toolkit has unlocked a new frontier in game modding, enabling enthusiasts to integrate sophisticated ray-tracing technology into virtually any classic title. While modernizing a two-decade-old classic like GTA 4 is impressive, pushing the boundaries even further is now reality: the original Grand Theft Auto, despite being three decades old, is undergoing a stunning visual transformation.
The modder behind this project, known as gabdeg, is actively breathing new life into the franchise’s inaugural installment. Although the project remains in an early stage of development without a confirmed release date, these initial screenshots and side-by-side comparisons perfectly illustrate how modern lighting calculations dramatically revitalize a retro aesthetic.
