Potential Director for New “Jurassic World” Movie Identified
Spanish filmmaker J.A. Bayona, known for his work on The Orphanage, may be making a return to the Jurassic World franchise. The director is currently the top contender to helm the sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth, which stars Scarlett Johansson.
This vacancy follows the departure of Gareth Edwards, who stepped away from the project due to creative differences with Universal. Bayona is no stranger to the series; he previously directed the 2018 installment, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which grossed an impressive $1.3 billion at the global box office.
Production for the fifth entry in the saga is slated to begin in 2027. Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali are expected to reprise their roles. Jurassic World Rebirth premiered in 2025, ultimately securing $872 million in worldwide earnings.
Bayona’s esteemed filmography also includes acclaimed titles such as Society of the Snow, The Impossible, and A Monster Calls, as well as directing episodes for Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
