Pokémon Pokopia becomes the highest-rated Pokémon game on Metacritic
The title is slated for an exclusive launch on the Switch 2 this March 5th.
Pokémon Pokopia has officially emerged as the most critically acclaimed installment in the franchise’s long history on the review aggregator Metacritic.
Described by many as a vibrant life-simulation hybrid blending elements of Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Minecraft, Viva Piñata, and Dragon Quest Builders, the game will debut on March 5th as a Switch 2 exclusive. Critics have lauded the project with near-universal praise, resulting in a current Metacritic average of 88 out of 100.
Previously, the benchmark for the series was held by Pokémon Y (88) and Pokémon X (87). However, since these dual releases are traditionally assessed as a pair, their combined average of 87.5 falls just short of the new record set by Pokopia.
According to Metacritic, the definitive ranking of the highest-rated Pokémon titles is as follows:
- Pokémon Pokopia — 88
- Pokémon X & Y — 87.5 (87 for X and 88 for Y)
- Pokémon Black & White — 87
- Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver — 87
- Pokémon Sun & Moon — 87
- Pokémon Diamond & Pearl — 85
- Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon — 84
- Pokémon Platinum — 83
- Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire — 82.5 (83 for Omega Ruby and 82 for Alpha Sapphire)
- Pokémon Legends: Arceus — 83
