The Nintendo Switch 2 has overtaken the PlayStation 5 in Japanese sales. Despite the Sony console having a longer time on the market, the Switch 2 holds the lead in the domestic region.
Data from Gematsu shows the Nintendo Switch 2 reached 5,940,500 units sold in Japan. The PlayStation 5 sits at 5,920,682 units. The Nintendo hardware hit this milestone in about one year.
Sony recently increased the price of the PlayStation 5 in specific markets, which affected sales performance. Nintendo maintains its market position through consistent demand and brand strength within Japan.
The Switch 2 currently lacks major titles like a new Mario or Legend of Zelda game, yet the console maintains a high sales velocity. If Nintendo keeps this pace and releases significant exclusive titles, the lead will likely grow.
