PlayStation 5 Emulator Runs Unreal Engine 5 Game on Integrated Graphics

Developers continue working on optimization.

In the summer, Sony announced that it would stop producing physical discs for PlayStation games. Gamers grew concerned about game preservation, causing many to pay increasing attention to various emulators.

One of the most promising projects at the moment appears to be the PlayStation 5 emulator called “KyTyPS5”. Over the past few weeks, it has progressed from a stage where simply launching and reaching the initial startup screen was considered a major technical breakthrough, to achieving a relatively stable (though still low) framerate, or even occasionally hitting 30 FPS in a project on the scale of the Demon’s Souls remake.

Full PlayStation 5 emulation demands heavy resources, but owners of weaker hardware now have reason to hope. Another important technical milestone was recently reported: the Silent Hill 2 remake, a game built on Unreal Engine 5, was successfully launched on a fork of the KyTyPS5 emulator.

The test used a fork named “KytyPlus”. The game ran on integrated graphics (iGPU) with 512 MB of memory during a test conducted on an AMD Radeon 840M:

KytyPlus is a high-level emulation (HLE) fork of the PS5 emulator built on KytyPS5. It can now render the Silent Hill 2 remake on integrated AMD Radeon 840M graphics without Sony’s firmware, using only Vulkan and HLE.

The Silent Hill 2 remake currently only reaches 4 FPS on the content warning screen, but that remains a massive achievement. Legal_Help_31 explains that this is currently “the most advanced documented result for this game across the entire PS5 emulation scene.” When launched on the original KytyPS5 emulator, the game crashes during the loading screen or intro.

This result was achieved through high-level emulation without using the console’s system firmware from Sony, which reduces potential legal risks. AMD FSR technology is also supported.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Meanwhile, Take-Two and Rockstar Games have not announced anything concrete regarding a PC version, leading some players to hope they can use emulators to play the new release early on PC.
