With the launch of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls just around the corner, developer Arc System Works has given fans an exciting glimpse into the title’s post-launch future by unveiling its inaugural downloadable character.
Stepping into the arena as the lead combatant for the Year One DLC pass is Phoenix Cyclops. You can witness his blazing prowess in the reveal trailer below:
To clarify, “Phoenix Cyclops” isn’t an entirely new original moniker; rather, this formidable variant features the X-Men leader fused with the cosmic, destructive might of the Phoenix Force. This design serves as a direct homage to Scott Summers’ memorable tenure among the Phoenix Five during the iconic Avengers vs. X-Men comic crossover. Voice actor Ray Chase—who recently breathed life into the character in Marvel Rivals and X-Men ’97—returns to voice this fiery iteration.
“Alongside his trademark optic blasts and exceptional close-quarters combat mastery, this unique version of Cyclops channels the raw energy of the Phoenix Force, meaning players can truly expect Scott Summers to bring the heat,” explained Takeshi Yamanaka, producer of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, in a recent PlayStation Blog post. “We look forward to sharing deeper insights into how these transcendent abilities integrate into his core mechanics, so be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming breakdowns of his comprehensive fighting style.”
Phoenix Cyclops leads the charge as the first of four fighters included in the Year One DLC roadmap, which will also introduce a dynamic new stage alongside custom victory poses. Die-hard fans can secure this content bundle automatically by purchasing the Ultimate Edition. This premium tier additionally packs in alternative chromatic color shaders for the entire roster, individual premium threads for Spider-Man, Storm, Iron Man, Captain America, and Doctor Doom, plus exclusive cosmetic options tailored for the game’s interactive online lobbies.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls officially arrives on PlayStation 5 and PC on August 6. However, eager competitors looking to test the waters early can jump into the free open beta event happening this weekend.
