Developers are preparing a major technical update.
Starbreeze Studios currently focuses on Payday 3. They have handed over support for the second game to the developers at Sidetrack Games, who recently announced a substantial technical overhaul.
Payday 2 will upgrade its Diesel 3.0 engine. The team plans the following improvements:
- Transition to a 64-bit version
- Update from DX9 to DirectX 11 rendering
- Reduction of file size to roughly 32 GB
- Faster load times on SSDs
- 6-character lobby codes
Sidetrack Games intends to run an open beta for this engine update.
The team shared a short video announcement and a post on the Payday 2 Steam community page. They have not yet provided a detailed list of changes or benchmarks comparing load speeds and performance.
