Paramount’s Scream 7 Becomes a Streaming Hit on Prime Video

Nearly every Scream movie revolves around a killer lurking in the shadows. The franchise’s latest installment had plenty of off-screen drama too. Scream 7 reached theaters in February 2026. A long list of controversies divided the fan base, yet the film still grossed over $200 million at the box office, more than four times its $45 million production budget.

Scream 7 has kept its momentum on streaming. It arrived on Prime Video on Oct. 16, 2026. At the time of writing, it ranked as the platform’s sixth most-watched movie in the United States, according to data aggregator FlixPatrol.

Fan favorites return in Scream 7

The biggest draw is the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney. Campbell sat out the sixth film because of a salary dispute. In Scream 7, Sidney lives a quiet, idyllic life in Indiana with her teenage daughter Tatum, played by newcomer Isabel May. Then Ghostface comes back.

Sidney starts receiving videos in which killers from her past taunt her. Those killers bring back fan favorites Matthew Lillard, Scott Foley and Laurie Metcalf. Sidney calls an old friend, Gale Weathers, to help her find the truth. That means Courteney Cox returns, and she is still every bit as formidable as she was in 1996.

Worldwide, Scream 7 earned more than $200 million, making it the highest-grossing film in the franchise’s 30-year history. The original Scream earned $173 million in 1996. 2023’s Scream 6 earned only $166 million worldwide.

Controversies didn’t stop the film

Casting news shook up the months before release. Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega helped revive the franchise in 2022 as sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter. Neither would return for Scream 7.

Barrera was fired after she voiced support for Palestine on social media following the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack in Israel. Spyglass, the film’s production company, called her posts “antisemitic.” The company told Variety it had “zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form.”

Barrera defended herself in a post on Instagram. She wrote:

Siblings Tara and Sam Carpenter (Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera) flee in panic in a scene from Scream 6.

“As a Latina, a proud Mexicana, I feel the responsibility of having a platform that allows me the privilege of being heard, and therefore I have tried to use it to raise awareness about issues I care about and to lend my voice to those in need. Every person on this earth — regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or socio-economic status — deserves equal human rights, dignity and, of course, freedom.”

Ortega dropped out shortly after Barrera’s firing. Both Carpenter sisters were left in the franchise’s past, and fans disagreed about where the series was heading.

Even one of the film’s most beloved actors has expressed regret. Matthew Lillard, who reprised his role as Stu Macher, told Variety he was “ashamed” to be in the film. In the interview, he said:

“I went back to do ‘Scream,’ and I got called out. And I’m like, ‘Oh, fuck. That’s brutal,'” he continued. “I feel bad about that. I feel ashamed about that. Because in that moment I was so excited to go back, I didn’t really think about Melissa and that journey. I didn’t say no. I’m embarrassed; that’s the truth … I blew that. I’m on the wrong side of history for that. I still like being in the movie [but] it may not have been the best idea.”
