Paramount Confirms Theatrical Release for New Avatar: The Last Airbender Movie

The world of Avatar: The Last Airbender is officially heading back to the big screen. Following a whirlwind of scheduling uncertainty, production delays, and a significant security breach, Paramount and Nickelodeon have confirmed that the animated feature Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender will receive a theatrical run alongside its digital debut on Paramount Plus.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted the listing on AMC Theatres’ website this Wednesday. The promotional materials confirmed that the film is slated for a theatrical release on July 24, just one day prior to its widespread arrival on the Paramount Plus streaming platform.

However, those hoping for a wide cinematic release may be disappointed, as the run is highly exclusive. According to Variety, the film will enjoy only a one-week engagement from July 24 to 30, limited to the AMC Burbank 8 in Los Angeles and the AMC Empire 25 in New York City. Co-creator Bryan Konietzko categorized the engagement as a “very limited, award-qualifying theatrical run” via social media.

Tickets are scheduled to go on sale Thursday, July 16, at 9 a.m. EDT / 6 a.m. PDT. The movie is also set to make an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con on its opening day.

The journey to the screen has been anything but smooth for this sequel. After an initial 2025 window, the project faced multiple shifts, the temporary abandonment of theatrical plans, and a damaging footage leak that resulted in legal action against the perpetrator.

Picking up after the events of the original series, the story follows an adult Aang who has ushered in an era of relative peace. Yet, the legacy of the Fire Nation’s aggression lingers. Discovering that his culture might not be as eradicated as previously believed, Aang discovers a glimmer of hope that changes everything. The official synopsis teases a high-stakes global adventure:

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender follows an adult Aang as he uncovers an ancient power capable of shielding his heritage from total extinction. Alongside his trusted companions, he must embark on a dangerous quest to secure this power before it falls into malicious hands, threatening the stability he fought so hard to build.

The ensemble voice cast features Eric Nam as Aang, accompanied by Dave Bautista, Jessica Matten, Román Zaragoza, Steven Yeun, Dionne Quan, and Dee Bradley Baker. The film also boasts an impressive supporting cast including Ke Huy Quan, Freida Pinto, Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Ronny Chieng, and Ken Jeong.
