Paper Mario-style game Escape from Ever After — about fighting capitalism — gets a release date and new trailer
Storybook characters and literary heroes will set out to combat “office slavery” in January 2026.
HypeTrain Digital and developer Sleepy Castle have announced the release date for the adventure RPG Escape from Ever After and unveiled a new gameplay trailer. The game launches on January 23, 2026, across current platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam).
The developers explicitly cite inspiration from the classic Paper Mario games and invite players to spearhead a revolt against the megacorporation Ever After Inc., which consumes storybook realms for cheap labor.
Player-controlled protagonist Flint Buckler must join forces with a long-standing adversary to lead the resistance against corporate tyranny and save the fairy-tale worlds from annihilation.
The creators promise journeys through varied worlds and settings, encounters with alternate takes on classic literary heroes, and clashes with unusual foes.
The game features a turn-based combat system centered on combining skills and items. Each companion has a distinct skill set that can be upgraded. Beyond combat, Escape from Ever After offers office errands to complete, squabbles with management, and even opportunities to personalize your workspace.
