Olivia Rodrigo has officially unveiled her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, once again solidifying her status as the definitive voice of modern, melancholic romance.
The record, which hit streaming platforms this Friday (June 12), features a 13-track exploration of the complexities of love. The album captures the full emotional trajectory of a relationship—from the initial intoxicating spark of the honeymoon phase to the haunting insecurities and the inevitable heartbreak that follows. This release marks a significant milestone three years after her chart-topping success with 2023’s Guts, further refining the sharp, vulnerable songwriting style she introduced on her debut, Sour.
“I found that my favorite love songs always carried a thread of yearning or genuine apprehension,” Rodrigo noted in a recent British Vogue interview. “I used to believe that if I just found the right person, everything would click into place and I’d finally feel whole. But it’s never that straightforward; the reality is much more nuanced.”
Fans were given a glimpse of the new project through the lead single “Drop Dead,” which soared straight to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, followed by the evocative track “The Cure.” Rodrigo also gave audiences a preview of the album’s sound during her May performance on Saturday Night Live with “Begged,” and surprised fans by debuting “What’s Wrong With Me” alongside Robert Smith at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound.
The singer is now preparing for the next chapter: the “Unraveled Tour.” The expansive arena trek is scheduled to launch this September, taking her across North America and Europe through May of next year.
