Curry Barker’s horror film Obsession has officially eclipsed the global box office earnings of the 1999 cult classic The Blair Witch Project.
With a worldwide gross of $286.5 million compared to Blair Witch’s $248.6 million, Obsession has now secured the title of the highest-grossing film in history produced on a budget of less than $1 million—a record previously held by the iconic found-footage horror movie.
Obsession follows the story of a young man named Bear who acquires a magical wand capable of granting wishes. He uses it to make his colleague, Nikki, fall in love with him. However, his wish triggers a terrifying obsession that leads to dire consequences. The film stars Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette. In Russia, the movie’s box office performance exceeded 230 million rubles.
