Nintendo updated the Switch 2, but Resident Evil 4 and Pokémon still display errors
Nintendo has issued an update for the Switch 2 that enhances backward compatibility with original Switch titles — though the rollout hasn’t been entirely trouble-free.
Among the games addressed were Doom + Doom II, Guardian Tales, NieR: Automata, Skies Above, Sugardew Island, Super Mega Baseball 4, and Timespinner. These titles should now run more reliably, with fewer crashes and unexpected exits.
However, new problems have surfaced. Nintendo confirmed save-progress bugs affecting Resident Evil 4 and Blades of Darkness — players may encounter issues saving or advancing through particular sections. For Sports Party a temporary workaround has been identified: if the game doesn’t freeze on startup, wait roughly 30 seconds on the main menu, then quickly begin a session; this significantly increases the likelihood of normal gameplay.
Meanwhile, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl continue to produce errors. Nintendo says it will steadily address these bugs and keep improving compatibility for popular Switch titles on the Switch 2.
