Nintendo Shows How the Vi-O-La Motorcycle Works in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Nintendo Japan has published official details about the futuristic motorcycle Vi-O-La, revealed during the latest Nintendo Direct for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

The Vi-O-La will serve as Samus Aran’s primary means of transport on an uncharted planet, but it’s far more than just a vehicle. The bike features integrated combat and tactical systems:

  • Boost — temporarily surges forward, knocking back foes and breaking apart ore veins.
  • Power Slide — a lateral drift executed during Boost that can shove away nearby enemies and obstacles.
  • Projectile — Samus fires homing rounds that can strike up to five targets at once; after impact they return like a boomerang.

The Vi-O-La can only be summoned in designated zones. Disembarking restores the familiar first-person view — a design choice meant to reassure players who worried the vehicle might make exploration too easy.

The Switch 2 version will deliver upgraded visuals and offer a choice of modes: 4K at 60 fps or 1080p at 120 fps. It will also support mouse-style aiming via the Joy-Con 2.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is set to release on December 4, 2025 for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
