Nintendo Quickly Denies Rumors That It’s Lobbying Against AI Use in Game Development
The rumours began after a Japanese politician claimed that Nintendo was allegedly coordinating with government officials.
Nintendo has formally denied reports that it lobbied against generative artificial intelligence.
Contrary to recent online discussion, Nintendo has had no contact with the Japanese government regarding generative AI.
The company stressed it will continue to take necessary action against infringements of intellectual property rights, regardless of whether generative AI is involved.
The rumours followed a statement from a Japanese politician who asserted that Nintendo was cooperating with authorities to restrict or even ban the use of generative AI in order to protect its intellectual property. Shortly after the claim was published, the politician deleted the original post and issued an apology in a follow-up message, acknowledging that it contained misinformation.
