After months of speculation, the company has confirmed it is developing several unannounced films based on its franchises.
At an investor meeting, Nintendo said it intends to produce game adaptations on an ongoing basis. The company is crafting a long-term release strategy informed by the success of the 2023 animated feature The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which earned more than $1.3 billion at the global box office.
The next title on the slate is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, slated to premiere on April 3, 2026, and it will be followed by a screen adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, expected in 2027. The presentation also referenced “other projects” in development, underscoring Nintendo’s plans to grow its cinematic universe.
Industry whispers claim the studio is already developing a third Super Mario film inspired by Mario Odyssey, as well as a Metroid adaptation. While Nintendo has not named specific projects, the report mentions the formation of a structure for regular film releases, indirectly corroborating those insider reports.
