Kensuke Tanabe, producer of the Metroid Prime series, referenced the franchise’s second entry in the book Metroid Prime 1–3: A Visual Retrospective, prompting renewed rumors about a possible revival of the game.
His remarks specifically addressed the multiplayer component of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and many fans interpreted them as a hint that a remaster or remake could be in consideration.
Tanabe recalled that Retro Studios developed the multiplayer mode under challenging circumstances yet managed to retain its quality. He emphasized the mode was originally conceived for local play, which meant it went largely underappreciated at the time.
Although Nintendo has not issued any official statement about an updated version of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, the producer’s comments have fueled speculation that the company may be contemplating a refreshed release of the classic.
