Nintendo Confirms The Legend of Zelda Movie Title
Fans hoped that Nintendo would share a meaningful update on the The Legend of Zelda movie releasing in April 2027. The Nintendo Direct could have shown a trailer or offered more stills of unannounced cast members. Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto did provide some information on the movie, though it differed from what people wanted.
The Zelda movie is officially called The Legend of Zelda. Miyamoto stated that fans would understand why the movie lacks a subtitle, which suggests the project will serve as an origin story. Because the title reveal followed an emotional orchestral opening, the news felt anticlimactic. Miyamoto noted that Nintendo will share more information in the future.
Nintendo previously released stills of the upcoming fantasy video game adaptation starring Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Hollywood trades later revealed the casting of Australian actor Uli Latukefu from Marco Polo as Ganondorf, Dichen Lachman from Severance as Impa, and Yvonne Strahovski from Mass Effect 2 as an unknown character. Sam Neill of Jurassic Park fame was also rumored to appear as the King of Hyrule, marking a potential final silver screen performance for the late actor. Alongside the cast, the movie is produced by Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto in partnership with Sony veteran Avi Arad.
The movie wrapped filming in April 2026, leading to an information blackout. The only real nugget of information received since the announcement came from an interview with director Wes Ball, who mentioned that the movie will feature a more grounded and real vibe. With the new trailer, the public can see Ball’s vision and decide how well the film captures the spirit of the RPG series.

The 30-minute Nintendo Direct showcase featured additional Zelda news, including the first look at gameplay for the Ocarina of Time remake and the new, more expensive Nintendo Switch 2 console releasing alongside the title.
