Ninja Gaiden 4 Creators Say ‘Pure Action’ Genre Will Never Go Out of Style

Despite the proliferation of hybrid genres, slasher-style action remains in demand.

Ninja Gaiden 4 directors Masakazu Hirayama (Team Ninja) and Yuji Nakao (PlatinumGames) spoke with Automaton about what players should expect from the upcoming entry.

Hirayama stresses that Ninja Gaiden 4’s primary aim is to deliver the series’ signature “pure action”. He adds that while the game honors the traditions of the classics, it is also crafted to appeal to a contemporary audience.

According to Nakao, even with the rise of genre hybrids, demand for classic slasher experiences remains strong.

Many of the pure-action series from the past still feel relevant today. I’m confident that titles like Ninja Gaiden 4 will strike a chord with players who miss this style of game.

Ninja Gaiden 4 launches on October 21 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and will be available via Game Pass.
