Nicole Kidman Hints at Uncertainty as Divorce from Keith Urban Is Filed

When Nicole Kidman sat for her Vogue cover interview, she and Keith Urban were presented as a happily married couple. By the time that story circulated on October 8, Kidman had already moved to legally end the marriage after 19 years together.
The divorce petition, filed on September 29, cites marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences. The filing also included a parenting-plan agreement that lists Kidman’s home as the primary residence for the couple’s two teenage daughters.
During the Vogue conversation, writer Wendell Steavenson expected the familiar, reflective wisdom that often comes with age. Instead, Kidman came across as wry and self-questioning — a tone that, in hindsight, suggested she may have been navigating complicated personal terrain even while promoting the profile.
Following the publication of that interview, outlets including Billboard confirmed the pair had separated. Neither Kidman nor Urban has issued a comprehensive public statement about the split.
Onstage in recent performances, Urban altered the lyrics of one of his songs to acknowledge his guitarist, Maggie Baugh, rather than the original phrasing that referenced his partner. The change drew attention amid reports of the couple’s separation.
In the Vogue piece, Kidman spoke about a renewed appetite for creative work and reflected on big, existential questions — from loss and joy to the nature of truth — while expressing enthusiasm for continuing to explore new projects, possibly including writing. She framed her restlessness and curiosity as reasons to keep working rather than to slow down.
