Nicki Minaj Praises Taylor Swift’s ‘Life of a Showgirl’ Album: “This Writing Will Go Over Y’all’s Heads”

Nicki Minaj celebrated Taylor Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl, in a string of posts on X on Oct. 3 — the record’s release day — calling out several tracks that stood out to her.

Minaj singled out “Wood” as an immediate favorite, saying the song landed perfectly for her that night. She also teased a few of the track’s cleverly layered lines, suggesting some of the writing might fly under casual listeners’ radar.

She praised “Eldest Daughter” for its purposeful, resonant songwriting and applauded the title cut — which features Sabrina Carpenter — for Carpenter’s fully committed, character-driven verse. Minaj wrote that Carpenter “gets it,” complimenting the energy she brings.

Minaj also reacted enthusiastically to “Actually Romantic,” a track fans have speculated contains jabs aimed at other artists. Cheering on Swift’s assertive delivery, Minaj encouraged her to “go in for the kill,” applauding the record’s battle-ready spirit.

The two stars have exchanged mutual admiration over the years. Minaj has previously credited Swift with helping boost “Super Bass” early in her career, and despite a brief social-media disagreement in 2015, the pair smoothed things over and later performed together at the VMAs. In December 2023, Minaj even said she would jump at the chance to collaborate with Swift.

Minaj’s praise for Swift comes amid a separate, heated exchange between Minaj and Cardi B on X, a feud that has included pointed personal barbs and comparisons of commercial achievements. At one point, Swift’s name entered that back-and-forth when Cardi referenced sales and longevity while responding to Minaj.

For now, Minaj’s public reaction is clear: she’s impressed by the new album’s writing, performances and moments of bravado — and she’s publicly backing Swift as the record rolls out.
