Overwatch surged back into the spotlight on February 10, shedding its numerical suffix and pivoting to a fresh, story-driven annual cycle. Alongside the introduction of five new heroes, the game launched its latest narrative chapter, The Reign of Talon. For fans immersed in this unfolding saga, a significant expansion is on the horizon: the storyline is moving beyond the digital battlefield.

In a strategic collaboration, Blizzard Entertainment has teamed up with Webtoon—the titan of digital comics boasting over 85 million monthly readers—to debut an original series set within the hero-shooter universe. Titled Overwatch: Undivided, this 40-episode venture picks up where “Season 1: Conquest” left off, navigating the wreckage of Talon’s strike on Watchpoint: Gibraltar. The season’s cinematic debut set the stage, depicting the volatile Vendetta seizing control of Talon by force—a coup that saw Doomfist deposed and his signature gauntlet reclaimed.

With the reins of the criminal organization firmly in her grasp, Vendetta has initiated a global blitz, turning her sights first toward the iconic Overwatch base in Gibraltar.

The official synopsis for Overwatch: Undivided reads:

Following the catastrophic fall of Watchpoint: Gibraltar, Overwatch’s fractured ranks struggle to process their defeat. Vendetta’s campaign is only beginning, as she orchestrates a wave of terror against strategic hubs, research centers, and civilian populations across the globe. As Sojourn attempts to mobilize the remnants of her team, she is blindsided by a revelation that threatens the very foundation of their mission: In a world that seems to have turned its back on legends, can Overwatch remain united?

The internal dynamics of the heroes will undoubtedly be a focal point, yet questions linger regarding former Talon operatives like Reaper, Sombra, and Widowmaker, who disappeared following the internal power shift. While the franchise has experimented with graphic novels before, this renewed emphasis on lore suggests a more committed and sophisticated approach to Blizzard’s transmedia storytelling.

The premiere of Overwatch: Undivided is scheduled for March 31 at 5 p.m. PDT / 8 p.m. EDT, exclusively on Webtoon’s English platform. The first three chapters will be available at launch, with subsequent episodes 4 through 8 accessible via the platform’s Fast Pass system.
