The latest Magic: The Gathering “Universes Beyond” expansion, Marvel Super Heroes, is almost upon us. While most players are preoccupied with heavy hitters like Galactus, Iron Man, or Black Panther, the real standout might be a humble piece of equipment: Hawkeye’s Bow. Though Clint Barton often gets overshadowed by his more flashy Avengers counterparts, his signature weapon is already stirring up trouble, and if history is any indication, this card could be staring down an early ban.
Image: Wizards of the Coast, Marc AspinallHawkeye’s Bow is a one-mana artifact that grants its wearer +1/+0 and reach. While that seems modest, the card’s true lethality lies in its secondary text: “Whenever equipped creature becomes tapped, it deals 1 damage to each opponent.”
At first glance, it feels like a niche ping effect. However, savvy players have already identified a way to weaponize this ability into an infinite damage loop. By pairing the bow with Seeker of Skybreak—a classic card capable of untapping itself for zero mana—the combo creates an endless feedback loop. Because the Elf can constantly tap and untap itself, it triggers the bow’s ability repeatedly, draining the table’s life totals in a single turn.

Unsurprisingly, the market has reacted; TCGplayer prices for Seeker of Skybreak have spiked from pocket change to over $5. Wizards of the Coast has yet to intervene, but the community is already buzzing.
Gavin Verhey, a prominent Magic designer and Pauper Council member, has acknowledged that the team is keeping a close watch on this interaction. With ban announcements scheduled for late June—just days after the set drops—the window for this combo to terrorize the meta is narrow. Drawing comparisons to the oppressive Basking Broodscale and Sadistic Glee synergy, players are bracing for a potential shift in the format.
Outside of Pauper, finding efficient infinite untap outlets is significantly harder. Options like Tidewater Minion or Devoted Druid require much more setup, making them less of a concern than the efficient Seeker package. Regardless, until an official ruling drops, carrying extra removal spells in your sideboards seems like a wise precaution.
