New Paranormal Activity Movie to Return Franchise to its Roots
The eighth installment in the Paranormal Activity series is set to release on May 21, 2027, marking 20 years since the original film and six years after the previous entry. Plot details remain largely under wraps, but Blumhouse revealed at New York Comic Con that the movie returns to the original house belonging to Katie and Micah.
As Jason Blum noted during Blumhouse’s New York Comic Con panel, Paranormal Activity holds immense emotional significance because it established Blumhouse as a major studio. Production eventually paused when the franchise became overdone, but Jason Blum agreed to revive the property after Atomic Monster producer James Wan proposed a collaboration.
What did Blumhouse reveal at New York Comic Con?

As reported by various sources, the upcoming Paranormal Activity film takes place in the same house featured in the first movie. Micah and Katie are unlikely to appear given the nearly two-decade gap since the original release, though their characters met a tragic fate at the property. Original director Oren Peli produces Paranormal Activity 8 alongside James Wan and Jason Blum, with Undertone creator Ian Tuason serving as director.
The Blumhouse panel also delivered updates on other horror projects. Jason Blum announced that the next Saw movie, directed by Wrong Turn filmmaker Mike P. Nelson and featuring original creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell, will depart from recent sequels to recapture the spirit of the 2004 original.
Blumhouse is collaborating with director Craig Zobel on a film adaptation of the horror comic book Something Is Killing the Children. Mike Flanagan directs The Exorcist: Martyrs, which received a trailer ahead of its March 12, 2027 theatrical release. Additional announcements include LaKeith Stanfield starring in Molepeople, Kristen Bell appearing as Ms. Klaus in Violent Night 2, and MatPat developing an Amanda the Adventurer film adaptation with Blumhouse.

Finally, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster outlined their upcoming premiere schedule. Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 was absent from the lineup, indicating a release date past 2027. Curry Barker directs Anything But Ghosts for a May 7, 2027 release, while a new Blair Witch Project movie arrives on September 24, 2027.
