New Capcom Vet Action Game Blends Devil May Cry and Persona
GPTRACK50—the independent development studio established by former Capcom veteran Hiroyuki Kobayashi, renowned for his work on Dragon’s Dogma and Resident Evil 6—has officially revealed that its highly anticipated action-RPG, Stupid Never Dies, is slated for an October launch.
Stealing the spotlight in the game’s latest promotional footage is Phoenix Zaza Hotfeathers, an enigmatic figure sporting an aesthetic reminiscent of a background performer in a high-budget music video. Though their allegiances remain shrouded in mystery, there is no denying their striking wardrobe, which channels the iconic blazing wings reminiscent of Johnny Gat from the Saints Row franchise. Gaming enthusiasts have always had a soft spot for morally ambiguous characters, especially those equipped with flight capabilities.
The narrative centers around Davy, an unassuming and introverted zombie whose sole motivation is reviving Julia, a preserved human girl, by embarking on a perilous, monster-infested journey. Situated firmly at the bottom of the societal food chain in a realm governed by supernatural entities, Davy must prove that sheer devotion can overcome insurmountable odds.
Along his travels, players will modify Davy’s decaying physique through eccentric body enhancements while absorbing the unique abilities of fallen adversaries. From aggressive demons and bloodthirsty vampires to restless ghosts and howling werewolves, consuming any foe brings Davy one step closer to his ultimate goal of bringing Julia back.
While the standard edition includes Davy’s full escapade, eager fans looking for expanded visual and auditory bonuses can opt for the game’s premier DLC package, TickTock Teddies: Nonsense Overload. Additionally, supporters won’t have to wait until launch to experience the music, as the official soundtrack becomes available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and various other major digital platforms starting August 4.
Furthermore, GPTRACK50 announced a strategic co-publishing alliance with Sega—the acclaimed publisher behind the Persona series—to help bring the title to the global market.
“We are delighted and deeply grateful to Sega for their publishing partnership and support as we bring the first of many games from GPTRACK50 to players,” expressed Hiroyuki Kobayashi, president of GPTRACK50. “Stupid Never Dies is an ambitious action game that introduces a number of original gameplay systems, and working with a publisher as experienced as Sega has been invaluable. Together, our team remains committed to delivering a game that we believe players around the world will enjoy.”
Stupid Never Dies launches on October 21 for Windows PC and PlayStation 5, following its initial reveal at last year’s Game Awards gala.
