Following its atmospheric debut at last year’s Triple-i Initiative, Neverway—a haunting fusion of life simulation, action-adventure, and existential dread—has returned with a significant update. The developers have officially confirmed an October release window, and in an exciting move, players can download and experience a free prologue on Steam right now.

The narrative centers on Fiona, a young woman struggling with profound depression who relocates to a remote, secluded island in search of a fresh start. While she attempts to build a quiet life through farming and fostering connections with the locals, she is relentlessly pursued by shadows of her past, forcing her to fend off nightmarish forces using precise, Zelda-inspired combat mechanics.

Neverway is the brainchild of ColdBlood Inc., a duo consisting of former Microsoft senior engineer Isadora Sophia and artist Pedro Medeiros, best known for his iconic work on Celeste and Towerfall. The project boasts an evocative score composed by Disasterpeace, the visionary behind the audio landscapes of Hyper Light Drifter, Fez, and films like It Follows. The title is being brought to market by Outersloth, the publishing label established by the creators of Among Us.

The newly released Steam prologue offers roughly an hour of gameplay, split between an introductory sequence focused on mood and world-building and a challenging, combat-heavy chapter from later in the story. While the early access prologue is exclusive to PC, Neverway is confirmed for a full release on the Nintendo Switch this coming October.
