Netflix Film Chief Dan Lin Fired
Netflix is pressing ahead with sweeping restructuring and staff cuts. Dan Lin has stepped down as head of the studio’s film division after three years in the role.
Under his leadership, the company developed Greta Gerwig’s “Narnia” and David Fincher’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” follow-up, “The Adventures of Cliff Booth,” among other projects. Before joining the streaming giant, Lin produced “It,” “The Lego Movie” and a number of other hits.
Lin also noted that Netflix has no plans to work with filmmakers who insist on a theatrical release for their movies. In September, Netflix announced for the first time that it would begin reporting box office figures for its films.
Industry press is speculating that former Warner Bros. executives Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca could take Lin’s place. Earlier, Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, also made a surprise departure, with Peter Rice stepping into her role.
