Natasha Bedingfield’s ‘Unwritten’ Transforms Into a Rainy-Day Mermaid Anthem for ‘Little Angel’ Spin-Off ‘Emmie’s Wonder Wardrobe’

Natasha Bedingfield’s Iconic “Unwritten” Receives a Charming Preschool Makeover

More than two decades after its 2004 debut, Natasha Bedingfield’s empowerment anthem “Unwritten” continues to find new life. From its tenure as the iconic theme song for MTV’s The Hills to its recent resurgence in the 2023 hit film Anyone But You, the track remains a cultural staple. Now, it is making its mark on the younger generation as the first-ever cover song featured in the Moonbug Entertainment preschool series, Emmie’s Wonder Wardrobe.

Billboard Family is thrilled to offer an exclusive first look at this vibrant new rendition. The series, a spin-off of Little Angel, follows the adventures of Emmie—a lively girl with signature pink hair and a closet brimming with endless creative possibilities. In this heartwarming new video, Emmie and her friends transform a gloomy, rainy day into an imaginative aquatic adventure, donning mermaid tails and riding scooters through puddles. Bedingfield’s lyrics feel tailor-made for the scene, reminding viewers of all ages to “feel the rain on your skin” and embrace their own path.

Lola Reynoso, music director for Emmie’s Wonder Wardrobe, shares that selecting such a high-energy pop hit for the show—which launched this past April—was a deliberate choice to bridge the gap for older preschoolers.

“‘Unwritten’ is a timeless pop song that instantly compels you to sing along at the top of your lungs,” says Reynoso. “Its uplifting energy served as a core inspiration for the musical direction of the show. We chose it as our debut cover because its message of self-discovery and authenticity perfectly mirrors the show’s mission. Our goal is to encourage families to sing together while empowering children to celebrate their unique selves.”

By blending the catchy familiarity of a Billboard Hot 100 classic with the visual charm of the Little Angel universe, the series provides a perfect transition for children graduating from nursery rhymes to more contemporary, family-friendly pop.
