Following a phenomenal opening weekend, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expanding to IMAX screens across North America beginning August 6. While The Odyssey is relinquishing its exclusive hold on the premium format, Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster will maintain a presence in select theaters. Either way, devotees of Tom Holland can prepare for a breathtaking visual presentation.

Brand New Day shattered domestic records with a staggering $360 million debut, establishing the highest domestic opening weekend in cinematic history. Globally, the feature pulled in an astonishing $927 million, trailing only Avengers: Endgame ($1.22 billion). Combined with The Odyssey—which amassed a brilliant $911.4 million worldwide—these two behemoths fueled the most lucrative weekend in domestic box office history, generating over $430 million collectively.

While portions of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have encountered turbulence recently—with Phase 5 releases like Thunderbolts* and The Marvels failing to meet financial expectations—the web-slinger continues to anchor the franchise with absolute consistency. Spider-Man: No Way Home approached the $2 billion threshold, trailing only Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War among MCU entries, while Spider-Man: Far From Home comfortably crossed the billion-dollar mark.

The stellar performances of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey have positioned the domestic box office to breach the coveted $10 billion milestone for the first time since the onset of the pandemic, with current earnings already surpassing $6 billion. Although Toy Story 5 remains the leading earner domestically at present, Brand New Day is positioned to eclipse it swiftly. This dual triumph delivers a vital victory for Disney following underperforming theatrical runs from projects like the live-action Moana and Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Meanwhile, IMAX is riding the momentum of its most prosperous year ever, having secured $1.28 billion globally throughout 2025. That high watermark is expected to fall as The Odyssey shatters records as the fastest title to reach $200 million within the format. Nolan’s pristine IMAX 70mm cut has notably driven cinephiles to undertake extraordinary travel, accounting for 12% of the film’s total IMAX revenue despite screening in merely 41 venues worldwide. The introduction of Spider-Man: Brand New Day to IMAX guarantees that premium large formats will remain a magnetic draw for audiences.
