Modest Mouse have been quiet of late. That’s about to change, with the release this Friday (June 25) of The Golden Casket, their first album in six years.
On Tuesday, Modest Mouse were the musical guests on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. For their late-night moment, Isaac Brock and Co. rocked out with “We Are Between,” in what appeared to be an atrium with an assortment of houseplants, ornamental mushrooms and a pink elephant as props.
“We Are Between” appears on The Golden Casket, Modest Mouse’s seventh album and the follow-up to 2015’s Strangers to Ourselves, which blasted to No. 1 on both of Billboard‘s Top Rock Albums and Alternative Albums charts.
Dave Sardy and Jacknife Lee produced LP in Los Angeles and in Modest Mouse’s Portland, Ore.-based studio.
In an interview with Alternative Press, Brock admitted the new album is essentially the second volume their 2015 effort. “Yeah, it’s a two-part thing,” he said. “I was going to do ‘The Golden News,’ but I think I’m done with it.”
Don’t expect The Golden Casket to close a lid on the band’s career. “I don’t know the future, but I’m feeling pretty optimistic that this is not the last record we’ll put out,” he explained. “I also thought that the title was pretty funny. I can see why it could be seen [as] pretty bleak.
