Modder Adds Lore-Accurate Battles to The Witcher 3 — Combat Reflects Details from Sapkowski’s Books
Some players find the game’s default combat system unsatisfactory.
While waiting for The Witcher 4, many players continue to support The Witcher 3. Recently, one enthusiast set out to refresh the combat mechanics.
Modder fallanmorgh proposed several changes to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to make battles more faithful to the lore from Andrzej Sapkowski’s books. The steel sword is recommended for use against humans, beasts, draconoids and humanoid monsters, whereas the silver sword is intended for supernatural foes such as cursed beings or vampires.
The creator explained that, to better simulate fights with supernatural creatures and to reflect that silver is not as durable as steel, a durability threshold was introduced — once silver falls below a certain percentage of durability it will stop inflicting damage.
Oils can now be applied to any sword, and if auto-sheathing is enabled Geralt will automatically draw the appropriate blade. Health bars have been adjusted for each monster category to indicate which sword should be used against them.
The modification “Wolf Path — Lore-Friendly Combat Against Monsters” for The Witcher 3 is available free on Nexus Mods.
