Minecraft Gets Its First “Long” Patch in 11 Years

An unexpected milestone was surpassed after many years.

Recently the Minecraft team began testing a new patch. The Java build labeled “1.21.10” includes a number of minor fixes and tweaks.

However, it wasn’t the patch’s contents that drew the community’s attention but its version number — observers note that, for the first time in 11 years, Minecraft has received a “long” patch: one segment of the version uses two digits. See the patch details.

Versioning typically follows a simple increment pattern (e.g., 1.), so by that logic this update might have been named “1.22”, yet Mojang chose a different convention.

The last time a “long” patch appeared was in 2014 — version 1.7.10.
