Minecraft adds copper janitor golems, shelves, weapons and more — The Copper Age update launches

The Copper Age has dawned in the cubic sandbox.

The developers of Minecraft have released a substantial content update called The Copper Age (the Bedrock edition is version 1.21.111, and the Java edition is 1.21.9).

This update centers on copper and the array of items you can craft from it — from weapons and armor to decorative pieces and new golems.

A new chest type, the “Copper Chest,” has been added, along with a linked mob mechanic: the Copper Golem — it can assist with sorting items between chests. The golem is able to transfer contents from copper chests into regular chests.

A decorative block called the “Shelf” was also introduced: each shelf can hold up to three items.

Shelves can be powered with redstone and connected to form “electrified” shelf networks.

Interacting with a single connected shelf swaps all of its contents with the three rightmost slots of the player’s hotbar (interacting with two connected shelves swaps six items, and with three shelves swaps all nine).
