Miley Cyrus is transforming a devastating personal loss into art: she has contributed an original song to the soundtrack of the highly anticipated film Avatar: Fire and Ash.
On October 22, 2025, Cyrus announced she wrote an original piece for the Avatar sequel. Sharing a short preview on social media, she explained that the song was shaped by the trauma of losing her Malibu home to a wildfire in 2018 while she was creating the track.
Cyrus said the experience of being burned and rebuilt imbued the project with deep significance. She thanked director James Cameron for the chance to convert that ordeal into what she called “musical medicine,” and added that the film’s themes of unity, healing and love resonate strongly with her.
In the preview, her voice rides a sweeping orchestral backdrop as she sings, “Even through the flames, even through the ashes in the sky / Baby when we dream, we dream as one.”
Avatar: Fire and Ash is slated to open in December 2025, more than 15 years after the original Avatar was released. The first film — starring Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana — remains one of the highest-grossing movies in history, earning more than $2 billion at the worldwide box office.
Cyrus has spoken candidly about how the 2018 wildfires affected her life. She previously said the house she shared with then-husband Liam Hemsworth was destroyed, though all of her animals were safely evacuated.
When California experienced wildfires again in 2025, Cyrus reflected on the lasting impact of that loss: the memory of walking up to a familiar door only to find ash and rubble is something she described as unforgettable.

Honored to support Avatar: Fire and Ash with an original song I’ve written with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. Having been personally affected by fire and being rebuilt from the ashes, this project holds profound meaning for me. Thank you, Jim, for the opportunity to turn that… pic.twitter.com/OyHvzZJhXp
