Mike Flanagan wants to direct a new Jaws movie
Following the recent debut of his latest series, Carrie, director Mike Flanagan has revealed his ambition to helm projects within two of Steven Spielberg’s most iconic franchises: Jaws and Jurassic Park.
Flanagan admitted that he previously shied away from the idea of directing sequels or expanding established cinematic universes. However, his recent experiences working with storied properties have shifted his perspective. He now finds genuine fulfillment in revisiting worlds he deeply admires, offering his own distinctive vision and creative interpretation to these classic tales.
Jaws, in particular, holds a special appeal for the filmmaker. While he acknowledges the near-impossibility of surpassing Spielberg’s original masterpiece, he believes there is significant potential for a fresh, modern reimagining. He is equally drawn to the Jurassic Park franchise, where he hopes to strip away the traditional blockbuster elements and pivot the series toward a visceral, terrifying horror experience centered on its prehistoric threats.
