New Releases for Spooky Season: Megan Thee Stallion, Springsteen, Miguel and More

A roundup of this week’s most notable hip-hop, R&B and pop releases.

With Halloween weekend approaching, a flood of new music arrived across genres — from sharp rap singles to introspective singer-songwriter albums. Artists refreshed their catalogs just in time for the season, offering everything from dance-ready pop to intimate, stripped-back records.

Megan Thee Stallion dropped a new single titled “Lover Girl,” which nods to Total with a prominent sample and celebrates her relationship with NBA star Klay Thompson. Her release anchors a busy week for R&B and hip-hop, joined by notable projects from Bruce Springsteen (Nebraska ’82 expanded edition), Miguel (Caos), Daniel Caesar (Son of Spergy), Leon Thomas (Pholks EP) and Halle Bailey (Love?… Or Something Like It).

Halle Bailey’s record marks her first full-length solo album after several acclaimed singles and high-profile film roles — she’s previously been recognized for tracks like “Angel” and for her performances in major musical films. Leon Thomas returns with the Pholks EP following the buzz around his track “Mutt,” timed just before his Mutts Don’t Heel Tour. Daniel Caesar’s latest continues the trajectory set by his 2023 release Never Enough, while Miguel’s Caos is his first full album in nearly eight years.

Coinciding with the theatrical release of Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, Springsteen issued an expanded 4-LP version of his seminal 1982 album Nebraska. The set includes acoustic demos, rare B-sides and the long-discussed “Electric Nebraska” recordings featuring contributions from the E Street Band.

On the pop front, Demi Lovato returned to upbeat territory with It’s Not That Deep, and Alessia Cara issued a deluxe edition of Love & Hyperbole. Brandi Carlile also released a new solo LP, Returning to Myself, following her recent collaborative project with Elton John. Meanwhile, new singles arrived from Shenseea, Hayley Williams, Sampha, Tee Grizzley and Samara Cyn.

There’s a lot to explore as we move into the year’s final months. Which new release are you spinning on repeat? Cast your vote in the poll below and tell us what’s on heavy rotation for you.
