Recently, we’ve been frequently writing about Ned Luke, Shawn Fonteno, and Steven Ogg reuniting at conventions, hoping that if not for us personally, then for some of our readers to meet the main cast of GTA 5. And surely enough, one of our readers was that lucky person. Sergey Vasiliev attended Comic Con Brussels, which took place this weekend in the Belgian capital, and shared photos and impressions from the event.
To start, it’s important to note that for our improvised “correspondent,” this was not his first encounter with the trio. He had previously ordered autographs from the actors through a special service. This works as follows: you pay online, a celebrity signs postcards, and then they are mailed to the buyer. It’s a popular service for Western players/viewers. A surprise for Sergey was that Michael himself contacted him on Instagram (done by a manager, of course) and wished him a happy birthday.
As expected, Comic Con Brussels featured everything it should: stars from various video games, movies, and series, various exhibits, and lots of cosplay.
But the main goal of visiting Brussels was to meet Franklin, Michael, and Trevor. Unlike in the game, in real life, they leave an impression not as dangerous criminals, but as kind, friendly, and open people, even though they often quote their characters. Shawn, despite his character’s youth, is closer in age to his two colleagues. Ned is a fun guy who loves his fans, and Steven is an attentive conversationalist. He asked where Sergey was from and was very surprised to hear Ukraine (though Sergey currently lives in Luxembourg). An interesting detail: the actors actually got back into their roles. Mr. Ogg interacted with fans as if he were Trevor, although he doesn’t like being called that, and Mr. Luke recited a line from the game that he dislikes, but players love.
Every day you forget a thousand little things, let this be one of them.
When it was time for the photoshoot (professional pictures are provided on site, and digital versions can be downloaded after the event), the trio talked like old friends, called everyone by name, and asked how they were doing. A must-do on the program was finding out which of the three Grand Theft Auto V endings you chose. And all this amidst an endless stream of quotes.
Of course, such an undertaking requires money. 150 euros for three autographs at 50 each, another 150 for individual photos at 50 each, and an additional 150 for a group photo. Total: 450 euros just for the full GTA 5 program. And there’s also the cost of tickets, travel, and accommodation. Mission budget: around 1,000 euros. But it was definitely worth it!
