Masha and the Bear series moves to the big screen

According to Variety, a feature-length film based on the animated series “Masha and the Bear” is currently in development. The project will be helmed by the original show’s creator, Oleg Kuzovkov.

The series has achieved monumental success both in Russia and internationally, with total viewership across all episodes on YouTube long ago surpassing the 100 billion mark.

Premiering in 2009, “Masha and the Bear” chronicles the antics of a spirited, inquisitive young girl who keeps a long-suffering forest bear on his toes. Previously, three shorter films have been released in theaters: “12 Months,” “Say ‘Cheese!’,” and “Wonder Park.”
