Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige Shares Positive Update on Live-Action MCU Venom

Although Tom Hardy’s iteration of the lethal protector may have concluded his cinematic journey, optimism persists regarding a future crossover between the symbiote icon and Marvel Studios’ flagship Spider-Man. During a joint conversation surrounding Spider-Man: Brand New Day, producer Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige encouraged enthusiasts to maintain optimism that Eddie Brock and Peter Parker will eventually share the screen.

In an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast hosted by Joshua Horowitz, Pascal and Feige delved into the long-discussed prospect of a cinematic collision between the two titans. While the characters briefly intersected via multiverse teases during the post-credits sequences of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home, a definitive face-to-face encounter has yet to materialize.

When questioned about the likelihood of the two Toms finally crossing paths, Pascal remarked simply, “It would be great. Let’s put it that way.”

Echoing that sentiment without making any definitive promises, Feige advised, “Always have hope.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Pascal verified that Sony Pictures is actively developing an animated Venom feature. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Hardy is anticipated to participate in the project, which will be spearheaded by Final Destination: Bloodlines filmmakers Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, though the release remains several years away.

The latest installment in the horror franchise introduced several unexpected narrative turns—let’s examine them closely.

Venom in the MCU

Up to this point, Hardy’s symbiotic antihero has operated exclusively within Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, clashing with adversaries like Riot, Carnage, Knull, and Shriek across a trilogy of films. This shared cinematic universe has historically concentrated on key characters orbiting the web-slinger’s mythos, encompassing properties such as Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter. Meanwhile, Tom Holland’s iteration of Spider-Man has been firmly integrated into Marvel Studios’ overarching MCU since debuting in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.

This structural division stems from the foundational agreement between Sony Pictures—which holds the core cinematic rights to Spider-Man—and Marvel Studios, allowing the iconic hero to partake in the lucrative Marvel Cinematic Universe. Concurrently, Sony retains authority over a vast assortment of adjacent characters while independently producing the acclaimed animated Spider-Verse features.

Live-action iterations of Spider-Man and Venom have not shared the screen since Tobey Maguire and Topher Grace crossed paths in 2007’s Spider-Man 3. However, evolving multiverse dynamics leave the door open for future surprises—perhaps even as early as next year’s star-studded Avengers: Secret Wars.

Street-level Spider-Man

Horowitz also touched upon the gritty, street-level corner of the Spider-Man universe, which features figures like Daredevil and Kingpin, previously established via Marvel Television productions. While Spider-Man: Brand New Day incorporates gritty elements such as Jon Bernthal’s Punisher alongside Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock—who previously made a cameo in No Way Home—the host questioned whether legal hurdles or rights disputes are preventing figures like the Kingpin from fully integrating into the broader MCU.

Addressing those concerns directly, Feige clarified that licensing roadblocks are not to blame. Instead, he attributed the careful pacing simply to “things to navigate, like everything else” inherent in ongoing creative negotiations between Sony and Marvel.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theaters on July 31. Shortly thereafter, the animated side of the franchise will reach its dramatic conclusion when Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse premieres on June 18, 2027, wrapping up the celebrated Miles Morales trilogy.
