Marathon has sold 250,000 copies on Steam — analysts
The official launch is scheduled for March 5.
Bungie has concluded the open testing phase for Marathon, during which the community provided a wealth of actionable feedback. While the development team managed to address several immediate bugs during the live session, other identified issues are slated for further analysis and refinement following the game’s debut.
In the wake of the playtest, Alinea Analytics released a report highlighting the most successful titles from Steam Next Fest. Marathon secured the second spot for the highest number of wishlist additions, trailing only the pirate-themed PvE survival game Windrose.
Furthermore, analysts estimate that by March 2, 2026, Marathon had already moved approximately 250,000 units on Steam. However, player engagement during the “Server Slam” was inconsistent; a sharp decline in activity was recorded on the second day, and the project failed to regain its initial momentum before the event ended.
Despite these fluctuations, reaching the 250,000-copy milestone prior to release is a significant achievement, and the game’s true long-term trajectory will become evident once the servers officially go live.
