Mahershala Ali States He Has ‘Moved On’ from Marvel’s Blade
Mahershala Ali is firmly putting to rest any lingering hopes that his long-gestating Marvel Cinematic Universe project will ever materialize. While promoting his upcoming feature Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, the acclaimed actor addressed the fate of Blade, making it clear that the chapter is definitively closed.
<p>During the promotional run for <a href="https://www.polygon.com/spider-man-brand-new-day-review/" target="_blank"><em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day</em></a>, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige publicly characterized the persistent hurdles in getting <em>Blade </em>off the ground as a "<a href="https://www.polygon.com/marvel-blade-movie-update-kevin-feige/" target="_blank">failure</a>." Prompted by these remarks during an interview with <a href="https://www.gq.com/story/mahershala-ali-your-mother-your-mother-your-mother" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">GQ</a>, Ali was asked whether the supernatural thriller was making any headway. "Not with me," Ali asserted unequivocally. Placing the responsibility squarely on the studio, he added, "[Marvel] had me under contract, they have billions of dollars. If they wanted to do the movie, we would've done the movie. So we're not doing the movie."</p>

Reflecting on his choice, Ali noted that it ultimately boiled down to committing to either <em>Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother</em> or remaining tied to <em>Blade</em>, stating, "And I'll take this." He further observed that the upcoming project "feels very much in alignment with the type of work I want to be known for." Having firmly turned the page on the endless inquiries about the comic book movie, Ali suggested that anyone still seeking explanations should take the matter up with Marvel.</p>
