M. Night Shyamalan’s “Stay” Receives Enthusiastic Reception After Premiere

A surprise screening of M. Night Shyamalan’s latest film, Remain, recently took place at the Beyond Fest in Los Angeles.

This mystical romantic drama stars Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko) and Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton). The screenplay was a collaborative effort between Shyamalan and renowned novelist Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook, A Walk to Remember).

Initial audiences have hailed the film as “witty, terrifying, and deeply romantic,” calling it Shyamalan’s most candid and vulnerable project since Signs. Critics have drawn comparisons to Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo, even suggesting the film serves as the perfect spiritual successor to The Sixth Sense. Early viewers were particularly captivated by the palpable chemistry between Gyllenhaal and Dynevor, as well as the “sensational” score composed by James Newton Howard.

The story centers on Tate Gordon, an architect struggling to cope with the loss of his sister. Seeking solace and a fresh start, he retreats to a remote home on Cape Cod, where he encounters a mysterious woman named Ren. Her presence soon forces Gordon to confront the blurring lines between reality and illusion.

Remain is slated for an international theatrical release on February 5, 2027.
