Louvre Heist Movie in the Works

French filmmaker Romain Gavras (*Athena*) is currently developing a feature film inspired by last year’s brazen robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris.

The screenplay will draw from an upcoming investigative book by French authors, slated for release in late May. The heist took place on October 19, 2025, when a group of unidentified individuals made off with eight pieces of jewelry valued at a combined total of €88 million.

While suspects were apprehended just days later, the event marked the first time the Louvre had been successfully targeted in the 21st century; the museum had not seen a similar crime since 1998. Specific details regarding the film’s release date and cast have yet to be announced.

Gavras is also the director behind the satirical film *Sacrifice*, which features an ensemble cast including Chris Evans, Anya Taylor-Joy, Salma Hayek, and Vincent Cassel. Following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in the autumn of 2025, the movie received largely negative reviews—holding a 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes—and ultimately failed to secure a theatrical release.
