Lionsgate Confirms ‘Michael 2’ Is in Development
Lionsgate has officially confirmed that a sequel to the Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, is currently in development.
“We have the flexibility to tell this story both forward and backward. There are numerous events that occurred within the original film’s timeframe that were left unexplored. We are confident that once all the pieces come together, we will create an incredibly compelling film that will once again resonate with global audiences,”
stated Lionsgate motion picture group chair Adam Fogelson. Although the initial film about the “King of Pop” received mixed reviews from critics following its April debut, it achieved a remarkable $715 million at the global box office. This success solidifies its position as the second highest-grossing music biopic in history, trailing only Bohemian Rhapsody ($911 million).
The film features Jaafar Jackson, the artist’s nephew, in the lead role. The movie is scheduled for release in Russia on May 28.
