Kevin Federline, Britney Spears’ Ex‑Husband, Says He Fears for Her Life: “We Can’t Keep Pretending Everything’s OK”

Kevin Federline Raises Alarms About Britney Spears in New Memoir Excerpts

Published excerpts appeared in The New York Times on Oct. 14, 2025

Kevin Federline has publicly expressed deep concern about the mental health and parenting of his ex-wife,
Britney Spears, in passages from his forthcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew. Excerpts published by
The New York Times on Oct. 14, 2025, depict Federline as alarmed about Spears’ welfare and the consequences he
fears could follow for their children.

In the selections, Federline warns that the situation feels as if it is moving toward something irreversible,
and he stresses that he worries about the future wellbeing of their sons if circumstances do not improve. “It’s
become impossible to pretend everything’s OK,” he writes in one passage.

Spears and Federline were married in 2004 and divorced in 2007. They share two sons: Sean, who is 20, and
Jayden, who is 19. Federline’s book includes passages in which he recounts episodes he describes as troubling
and says they left him fearful for the children’s safety — allegations that, if accurate, would be deeply
upsetting.

A spokesperson for Spears pushed back on Federline’s assertions in a statement provided to Billboard, suggesting
the claims are exploitative and noting that Spears has previously chronicled her experiences in her own memoir,
The Woman in Me. The representative emphasized that Spears’ focus remains on her children and their
wellbeing.

Federline’s memoir is scheduled for release on Oct. 21, 2025. He is set to sit for a televised interview about
the book on Entertainment Tonight, and in promotional material for that appearance he says he felt it
necessary to “sound the alarm” concerning his concerns about Spears’ state of mind.

Federline adds in the memoir that his intentions have always been to protect his children’s relationship with
their mother: “I’ve never, ever, once, been against Britney,” he writes, while reflecting on how the person he
married and the parent he sees today differ in his experience.

The report notes that Spears has publicly attempted to rebuild her bond with the boys. Following their split,
the children lived primarily with Federline; in 2023 they relocated with him to Hawaii. In December 2024 Spears
posted on Instagram that she had spent time with Jayden after a prolonged separation and described the reunion
as emotionally powerful.
